Ben Artside, Designer

Ben Artside has always been very passionate about using interior design to freely express himself, as it offers wide possibilities in terms of form and style.

He exercises that freedom of expression through the practice of different folding techniques.

His goal is to use his mastery of origami to push the boundaries of lampshade design to make them unique and original.

A native of Guadeloupe, Ben Artside lives and works in Brussels.

The Light Folder

Origami is the Japanese name for the art of folding paper to create a particular form. Though this art actually originated in China, it is the Japanese who have become masters in the field.

Ben Artside learned this art in order to master the technique and to use it as a creative tool. He has succeeded in using this oriental technique to create modern design objects.

The projection of ideas, preparation of materials, the work at hand are many steps to go from paper to a unique object in 3 dimensions.

For Ben, design and ecology go hand in hand: the materials used are mainly recovered materials, so that each handmade creation is a unique result.

He likes to quote the English art critic John Ruskin: "Fine art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together"
